It's The Stuff That Movies Are Made Of!

It's the stuff that movies are made of. The underdog defeats the enemy, and we all cheer.

The story of David and Goliath is likely familiar to you, but maybe it's about more than a boy with five smooth stones taking on a trash-talking giant. Maybe it's a story with something to show us about the heart of Jesus. Maybe it is the exact message of hope you need as you face "giants" today.

For this week's look at The Jesus Storybook Bible, author Carrie Ward urges us each to read the story of David and Goliath found in 1 Samuel 17 and to look for something deeper. Take her challenge and leave us a comment sharing what you've learned.

For David it wasn't about being a champion it was restoring honour to God. He didn't rely on his own strength or talent the tools God had given him. He was only a youth, he trusted God.

David and this story has always been one of my favorites since I was a young girl. Even with his faults David remained so sure of the Lord and HIS might. May God give us just an ounce of this type of faith and courage today that our love for Him and others would move the mountains to save lives.

This has helped me realize that alot of stories in the bible have an insight on Jesus himself! What an amazing thing!

    After God's Own Heart
on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 11:39 am
The Bible says that David was a man after God's own heart and that God delighted in him. When you read the account of David you notice that his life was not free from sin, pain, or struggles. The reason David found favor in God's eyes was not because he was perfect but because he found his way back to God when he was imperfect. David is the tried and true biblical example of an imperfect man made righteous by a perfect God.

Thanks for another post that points us back to God! :-)

    We are more than conquered!

This just shows that we could relate to the giant Goliath in our present lives as a stumbling block to our salvation and a huge test for us to trust in God with His might and having Faith in Him that whenever we approach Goliath(challenge) we trust in Him that this too shall pass!
    God bless u all!

    Grades Giant
on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 5:09 pm
I live in Manchester,England so I'm not on summer holidays yet. In school, we're still sitting exams and out of the ones that I've sat recently, I feel like I've not done as well as I expected. I learnt hard and prayed to God and I'd also appreciate your prayers for me because I'll be getting my results in August. Exams and grades have been my giant since year 9 in highschool. I want to defeat this giant.
PS I'm now in year 10 and in England, we go to college at 16. It just a shortened version of American highschool. Next year will be my last year in highschool so it's vital I do well.

    My giant

My giant is self worth. And I have a big prayer request about that.
You see, I am in college and my boyfriend and I have been dating for almost 8 months now. He is an amazing guy that God has put in my life, his testimony is amazing and his contenued walk with God is astounding.
But you see, in his past he slept with girls (befor he excepted Christ) and I know that is in his past and not coming back, but Satan gets a hold of me a lot saying "you'll never be as good as those other girls were because y'all don't go further."
it's not so much of temptaion of going further, but the hurt of thinking even if someday we marry, I'll never be good enough or as good as they were.
Please pray for me and thank you so much for this blog it has helped me tremendously!

    Love overcomes the past

Dear Lily if someday you marry this young man you will be the love of his life -in his eyes those girls will be so pale by comparison to his wife (you) he will not even think of them. It truly has nothing to do with how "good" you are, but rather what God is able to do with the love you share. Don't worry - God knows what He is doing :)

Lily, don't let the accuser tell you things like this. Each time he comes, pray. You can also search out biblical verses on the net for battling these feelings. Remember, when JESUS died on the cross, His blood cleansed every sin. He has accepted your boyfriend as a new creature in Christ and you need to as well. Pray for GOD's help and guidance and remember, your boyfriend may also have those feelings of guilt so encourage him also that the LORD sees him NOW and NOT his past. May GOD bless you and may his plans work out for your good.

I’m praying for you and your boyfriend this morning, sweet friend. Don’t allow the enemy to gain even an inch of ground in your mind by dwelling on his lies. He is a liar and deceiver who seeks to kill, steal and destroy all that God has created for our good and His glory.

Satan is a defeated foe, but you must engage daily to battle the “arrows” he is targeting against your mind. 2 Corinth 10: 5 says we are to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. That means examining every thought we have to see if it lines up with the truth of what God’s Word says. If it does then we can dwell on it (Phil. 4: 8), but if it does not, then we “kick it out” of our mind and replace that thought with a specific truth from God’s Word that will counter his lies.

So when the lie that, “You'll never be as good as those other girls were because y'all don't go further.” comes into your mind choose to dwell (memorize, meditate, even speak out loud) Hebrews 13:4, “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled” and 1 Corinthians 6:18,
“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body (1 Cor. 6:18). “

What really struck me is what you said Satan was saying to you. To me, I would think that you would be so much better than those other girls! Your boyfriend probably would say so, too. But I'll be praying for you!

Jesus used the underdog to take down a big giant. This shows that He can really use anyone. Listen to the song "Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns. It hits this right on the nail

Thank you K, Carrie and Jennifer!
It is so comforting to know that my sisters in Christ are here for me, especialy sense it is hard to come to family or friends about this sense they know my boyfriend and I dont want to tell them things about him that he hasnt come out with.
    Thank you all again!
    With love,
    Lily
