The start of 2013 marks a pretty huge milestone for us here on the Lies Young Women Believe Blog. It's our fifth birthday! That's right, for five truth-speaking, post-writing, comment-reading, lie-busting, friend-making years, we've been coming into your lives through your computer screen with two missions in mind.

We want to uncover the lies the enemy has told you.
We want to replace them with God's truth.

It has been our great privilege to write to you day after day, week after week, and year after year for five great years.

To celebrate, we've set aside the rest of the month to re-publish the "best of" liesyoungwomenbelieve.com. We'll be featuring the posts that really got you talking about what it means to live out God's truth. If you've got a favorite post you'd like us to run again, simply leave us a comment (please include the link), and we will see what we can do.

Also, what's a birthday without presents? Since you're the reason why we do what we do, we've decided to pass the presents on to you. Here's what we're giving away.

One day I was listening to 95.9 the Fish Christian radio station and Dannah was on as a guest talking about the LYWB book. My daddy was actually the one who told me to turn on the radio, and said "Sierra, this book would be awesome for you to read!" So I went online and bought it, and soon forgot I even did. Then, one day a few months later, a mysterious package arrived on my doorstep; it was the book! It was so unexpected but such perfect timing; I was in the middle of dealing with an eating disorder and slowly drawing away from God. This book helped me re-connect with Him and really focus on His Truth about who I am and the worth my soul actually carries. After I read the book, I logged onto the blog to check it out, and I was blown away even further. I love logging onto this site because it is one of the few places on the Internet where I can read inspiring posts that nurture my relationship with The Lord. I have literally Googled "sites like LYWB" to try to find more like it, and have not been able to! I just can't get enough of your words of wisdom. Thank you for inspiring & refreshing me, and happy birthday LYWB.com!!! :)

This blog has been really inspirational through my journey with Christ. It gives me good things to think about in quiet times and inspires me to make changes to further my relationship with Him. I love seeing not only the posts, but the encouraging comments from the other girls and how Christ is moving in them. This year is going to be a big one with graduating and going to college! First off, Happy Birthday LYWB! I am so thankful for the five years you've given to countless girls, including me! I want you to know that this blog carries on beyond just the readers. I am the oldest of 9 siblings, and I love reading/ turning the post into little devotionals with them. Especially my sisters, but sometimes the lil bros get an earful too! Haha I am even trying to get a group started at my church for preteen/teen girls, using the LYWB books and this blog as the basis to work on, centering it all on Christ of course! So that is what this blog has come to mean to me. Ministry. That is what it's all about; sharing God's love and message. Thank you for the open window you've created in helping that happen. Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to Lies Young Women Believe! I am so grateful for this ministry. It has impacted me so much. God has actually spoken through this blog many times throughout the year. Sometimes I would pray about a decision, and the next day I would get an email with the newest blog post about the topic I needed help with!!
Also, this past year, I took the Bible Reading Challenge, where I was supposed to read the Bible every day of the year. I was sort of successful (sometimes I didn't read until after midnight or I just counted a verse that I had read either in my email or on my phone as the Bible reading for the day).
It was a great experience, and I am going to strive to do it again this year! In fact, I received last year a journal for it, but saved it, but will start using it this year.

So grateful for your devotionals, I live away from my granddaughters, one 11yrs and the other 14 yrs. This is something that we share together and talk about. The devotionals lay the ground for MANY discussions that we have and may not have had if not for these devotionals. Our God is Good, we only need to rest and see His glory. Wonder, Joy and Gods presence!

Thank-you for challenging me to be appropriate about what to say with my current struggles online. One of the biggest ways you guys have impacted me, is not to hang onto relationships that may never even happen.

That you guys are kind enough to reply to my messages and give me scriptures to dwell on. Those gave me a lot to think about and things to dwell on. They've brought goot tears.
I come here all the time, because I'm mostly impacted by what you guys say about when it comes to love, relationships with guys and what is appropraite to say on a blog!

You all have helped me out so much this year with the advice you give :) I also need a little more advice about... What do you do when a close friend flirt with one of the boys in your group of friends in a very sexual way?

1st of all Happy Birthday! I believe God has and will use this blog to encourage and strengthen young women all over the world.

Let me tell you a thing or two about myself.
I was raised in a godly family by two wonderful happily married parents. I received Christ over and over again so many times since I was little that it is hard to know how old I was the first time. I am a tad introvert when I am in large crowds of people I know, yet when I am in public with strangers I have no trouble at all being outgoing. I am extremely blessed. I have friends that care about me, and God as the best friend I've ever had. He has brought me through many trials. But the trials I face are not like what you would expect from a teenager. My struggles are not drugs, depression, or sickness in the family. Instead I have faced fear, lack of purpose, and other spiritual battles, and been carried through it all by the seemingly small factor of faith. God has shown me that He won't ever leave my side, even when it seems like He has forsaken me. He will always rescue me from trouble, and save me when I am in distress. I haven't yet fathomed His love for me but I am seeing more and more each day as I ponder how I love the people around me. He has taught me about love, and how only to care what He thinks of me, because if do that, then I will want to obey Him always, and therefore desire to please my parents and serve others. I have come to realize that there is nothing sweeter than being close to the Creator of the Universe. I am no longer afraid of what is going to happen to me in the future because I know it will only make me a better person. I want all the women out there to know that God is the one to put your hope in, because sometimes things won't go your way, but that's okay because His ways are far better than ours. I, a mere high school student, have learned to fear The Lord and obey His commands. Talking to Him is one of my favorite things to do. He has told me who I am, because I was afraid I would not be the person I wanted to be, I am a child of God.
And all of this is because of the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

I wish I could put the rest of the things God has done for me, but I believe I have made this long enough.

This is for everyone, whether male or female, young or old, God has a plan for you. There is nothing you can't talk to Him about, listen for His voice, you are made free by Jesus' blood, embrace that freedom and live your lives for Jesus, because there is nothing else worth living for!

You might say to your friend, "I don't know if you realize how your actions toward ______ looked, but it wasn't becoming to you. I know you wouldn't want to have that reputation so I just thought I would tell you. You are a good friend to me and I care about you." Make sure you pray first and get your heart right, and also pray that God would prepare her heart to hear your words.

I believe salvation happens once and for all. Once God enters your heart, He doesn't leave the first or millionth time you become disinterested. So I think by "saved many times" you probably meant that you both were saved and then fell away and then regained a right standing with God. For the Christian, this is the result of being sinful rather than needing to get re-saved. If you believe differently then the assurance of salvation (which is very clear in the Bible) would be all over the place - hardly assurance at all.

Yes, I am sure you are right. In fact, that is exactly how it is with me. I agree with you on the forever salvation. Because even if a redeemed person turned away completely, God would pursue 'to get back what was once His' in a sort of fashion. By "saved many times" I meant that many times I have felt as if the Lord left my side (which i know would NEVER happen, usually it's because I turned from Him) yet it gives me peace when I ask Him, the same way I asked Him the very first time, to come into my heart again. And then i have assurance that He is near and I have a feeling of being made anew.
