Can Pencils Be Romantic?

I got a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils for my twentieth wedding anniversary. It was one of the most romantic gifts my husband has ever given to me. In fact, I wish every single one of you a twentieth wedding anniversary celebration half as romantic. I believe God dreams for marriages to be this sweet twenty years after they begin. He might even be as delighted as I was with Bob’s gift of a bouquet of pencils. That lovely bundle, tied up in a pink and white polka dot ribbon said more than “I love you.” It said: “Dannah, I know you!”
You see, in the very first few lines of my favorite romantic comedy, the guy (who is pursuing an on-line relationship) says to the girl “I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” I’ve watched this movie for ten years. I know each line by heart and Bob knows that I know. There’s something wonderfully intimate about that.
It all began on Sunday, April 26, when Bob announced that he was whisking me away to New York City on Tuesday and that there would be a theme to our three-day trip. Then, on Monday he showed up at my bedside at 7:00am with Starbucks. (Just for the record, he never goes to Starbucks. Well, once he did. He ordered milk!)
“I brought you a tall caramel macchiato,” he said, waking me from my slumber. “Does that mean anything to you?”
I sat straight up in bed and said, “It’s the drink that ______ ________ ordered in _________ __________ _________!”
I actually filled in the blanks, of course, but to make this anniversary celebration fun for you, too...I’m going to invite you in on the action. Anyone who posts the correct name of the actress AND my all-time-favorite romantic comedy based on the clues in this post, will be entered into a random drawing for a copy of my first book (also very romantic), And the Bride Wore White (because I assume you already have a copy of Lies Young Women Believe) and a $10 gift card for Starbucks! The winner will be announced in Wednesday's blog post. You can figure this out. Ask your mom! Ask your dad! (Surf the net!) Go!
