Good morning from The Rebelution's "Do Hard Things Tour" in Chicago!

Good morning, girls! You awake yet? I hope so—you won’t want to miss a minute of this awesome conference!

I’ve been up for almost six hours now . . . early for a Saturday morning, I know, but already totally worth it. I drove four of the youth group members from my church here. Seventy brain teasers, blonde jokes, and car games later (yes, there were three teen guys in my backseat), we arrived at the Moody Church.

I asked a volunteer where the manager was, so I could set up my computer for blogging. The volunteer wasn’t sure . . . “They’re in there,” she said, pointing to the little door behind the stage. “Go ahead and walk on in.”

I walked in to find the band (Reilly), Alex, Brett, and a few others hanging out. (Hmm . . . who doesn’t belong here?) But, they made me feel so welcome. I really like them. Brett told me all about their exciting new plans for 2011, and I even got to meet Alex’s fiancée, Courtney.

So . . . I’d better start listening now. Alex and Brett (guess who's older) just shared how the Rebelution got started, and then the 3000-3500 attendees texted their responses to the twins’ questions. Very cool.

Oh—Alex is talking. Gotta go. I’m curious, though: How many of you have heard of The Rebelution before today?

Also, a trivia question for you: When was the word "teenager" first published? Give it a stab!

The word teenager was invented in a Reader's Digest Mag. Two years ago I found the book "Do Hard Things" at Book-a-Million and my dad bought it for me with a deal. I would read it and then let him and my sister's read it also. I said yes. Then a month afterward I went to a christian family camp and the teens were doing a study on Do Hard Things. After that I joined the blog.
It's been so neat to follow Brett and Harris on their blog.

    Hey, girls,

I apologize for not properly introducing you to Alex & Brett Harris of The Rebelution. It all started the summer they were 16. They were bored, so their Dad put them on an intense reading regimen—biographies, doctrine, theology, sociology.

One book, especially, rocked their worlds: “The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century” by Thomas Freidman. They realized through that book that different ways of living the teen years lead to different results. They were like, “We have to tell the teens!”

So, they started a blog, and called it “The Rebelution”: A teenage rebellion against low expectations. God then gave them an incredible opportunity to not just talk about their message, but to live it through an internship with the Alabama Supreme Court.

Anyway, God just continued to bless and grow this movement. The guys started doing conferences, and they wrote a book last year titled “Do Hard Things.” You can check out their website here—it’s great! http://www.therebelution.com/
