A Different Kind of Kingdom

Nativity sceneTomorrow we will worship our baby King. We will celebrate the fact that He was born of a virgin and born in a manger. We will reflect on the fact that His birth was announced by a host of angels and a bright shining star that only add to the mystery of wonder of His humble arrival. When we think about Jesus' birth, one thing is clear—we don't serve an ordinary King.

Jesus frequently described His kingdom in parables while He preached.

In Matthew 13:31–32 He said, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."

In Matthew 13:33 He said, "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough."

In Matthew 13:44 we read, "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought the field."

Matthew 13:47–48 says, "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away."

Mustard seeds? Yeast? Hidden treasure? Fishing nets? Clearly the kingdom Jesus is describing is unlike any other kingdom we've ever known. And so it's fitting that our King isn't like other kings. It makes sense that His arrival didn't look like we'd expect it to.

Perhaps that is why so many people miss the point. We are looking for a certain kind of king. We expect him to be in charge of a certain kind of kingdom. But this Christmas, don't miss the point. Jesus is the King of Kings. He came to earth under humble circumstances, and He came to usher in a different kind of kingdom. How should we respond?

"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe" (Hebrews 12:28).

I'm SO THANKFUL that we have a different kind of kingdom to look forward to! I am awed that God would love us enough to come as a man, to humble himself so low! I love the analogy of the treasure--selling all to possess and cherish it. I want the world to grow dim in the light of this treasure! My King is coming back, and that is the focus of this special holiday!

Merry Christmas to you all! I really apreciated this, because it seems today I have been reminded so many times- and now I was again, that since God's kingdom is so different and wonderful--then what are we? I think it means that we should be living todally different too, way out different from this normal world-- and how this ties in w/ my Christmas, well, I think we should know- our Christmas' amidst all the gifts, food, and people--that we are to be different, to be showing our great kings glory through our lives, and to praise our holy king that was born to later save us. :)

I got the book 'Lies Young Women Believe' for Christmas from my mom.... I believe that it's the best Christmas present. I read it and thought about it and I truly believe that now that i almost fully understand what God wants from me and how to become a good christain.... I still have a long ways to go, trust me, but this has got to be one of the best Christmas's. I feel that I fully understand what God wants from me and I feel that I can try to accomplish it.... So, merry Christmas to all!!

This is great! This year, i think i've really been given some special ways to think about Christmas. Pastor Jay def gave me some good things to think about that i wouldn't consider on my own. And i enjoyed sitting with my fam and watching the Nativity Story. And of course, this. I just love it.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!!!

Can God give you hints about the new world in dreams?
on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 3:15 pm
I had a strange dream a few years ago. I understood what it had meant but i wasn't so sure about it. the dream:

I was reading a book on my bed in my new house and i hear a loud CRACK. I look outside my window and i see my family looking at the sky. So, i go outside to see what everybody was looking at. I look up, and i see a big gap i the sky and i see deer, frogs, foxes, and other animals looking up, too. i look back up and i blink ONCE and i was at my church. I blink again, and i feel a bible in my hand. i look down at it and i blink again and see the bible pages FLY OUT OF IT!!!! every page except for the ones that didn't mention the new kingdom. the ones that did stayed in there. i blink again and see that i am in a big field. then i blink again, and see that i am in an alley in New York, or something. a lot of gothy people there. then, all of a sudden, i here a voice. a deep sounding voice saying, "Go to the wall." we all obey and go to the wall. then, we see a bright, red light in the middle of the alley. the ground starts to shake and the red light turned out to be a hole in the alley which get's bigger and leaks out lava. get's bigger and bigger and bigger. all of a sudden, we all fall into a deep sleep. later on, we here the deep voice again. "Wake up, my children, and step into the beginning." i step in and i feel a watery feeling under my bare feet.
then i woke up. what does this mean, exactly? can somebody symbolize this for me?

I don't feel comfortable interpreting dreams for you. That isn't something I feel gifted to do and I certainly haven't felt like the Lord has given me a specific interpretation for you. If this dream was from the Lord, He needs to be the one to reveal to you what it means.

    Does that make sense?
