On Walking and Praying

God posted by Paula Hendricks on 07/26/10; 11 comments

The other day, I was talking with Erin about neighborhoods and prayer and . . . prayer walks, specifically.

Can I ask you . . .

Do you like to walk?

To pray?

Does your prayer life feel stymied?

If you answered "yes!" to any of these questions, you'll enjoy this really practical conversation. And I think you'll catch a bit of Christ’s heart for the world. And that's a beautiful thing!

I walked and talked with God just last night. This blog was a big help too, I had just been asking God just how other people did their prayer walks...it's one of my favorite ways to keep in touch with God. I am thankful to hear that, not only do others do the same, but your tips and heart help the way i will see things on my "prayer walks" from now on...

    thanks!

It was a really cool sign of God's timing when I woke up this morning and saw the subject line of today's devotional in my inbox. ^_^ I was at a Bible study with my friend's church last week, and just getting there was a sign of His will, because I rarely go to this particular one. However, one of the ladies there had been wanting to talk to me about possibly doing a prayer walk in the city as a group, but wasn't able to contact me until I showed up at the study. I had never heard of this before but was really interested and, as I prayed, felt like it was something we should do. Anyway, a few days ago, this woman had a meeting for planning the prayer walk, but I unfortunately missed it. So hearing this at such perfect timing has reinforced that it's something we should do, and given me some awesome ideas that I'll pass on to the group. Thanks guys, God bless!

I went on a misson trip to Brooklyn, NY. We did a prayer walk to the Brooklyn Brigde and once we were there we prayed as the Holy Spirit lead us. It was an AMAZING experiance and my first one. Seeing the people you are praying for really does make your praying more effective and brings you closer to God. What made it even better was I was surround by people with the same mindset who have a heart for God!!!

There have been a couple times in the past when I've prayed while out on a walk, but I've never thought about making a habit of it. I used to walk for excercise, but I haven't done it for a long time. Usually I spend my morning prayer time in my bed journalling my prayers. This would be an awesome solution for those mornings when I'm too tired to stay awake while praying in bed. Thanks for the idea! I'm going to try it.

I just got back from a mission trip to NH. We did alot of prayer walking. I love to prayer walk. Sometimes i will go outside and prayer walk our property. I will just pray about what is bothering me or what i and my family need. I love prayer walking because, you can get stuff off your chest way easier. I know I can pray anywhere, but when I'm walking i fell like I'm doing something. Does that make any sense?
    Give it a try.

My youth group went prayer walking in New Orleans several times on our mission trip...it was amazing! Seriously life changing. One walk in particular will never be forgotten by those who went, God was so obviously present that day. Prayer walking is a great thing to do in your own neighborhood, or get a group and go to several. We stopped and prayed for houses, and often curious people came by and we just carried on a nice conversation then ask if you can pray for them...most people are so excepting it's truly amazing!

"Prayer Walks" are my favorite way to get all of my thoughts sorted out - I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way! :) It just helps to take away the distractions and to really focus on God and His goodness!

I like this idea a lot! Many times I'm not allowed to prayer walk, but sometimes I pray when I'm out on my bike or while I'm mowing.
