You're A Powerhouse

I wish you could have been here this week. It's been intense . . . each day our staff has been meeting for 3.5+ hours to hear from Richard Owen Roberts, Shannon O'Dell, and ultimately the Holy Spirit. God's been speaking and moving in amazing ways, and I'd like to share with you a few things I've learned over the course of my next few posts. Basically, God's told me, "I want to use you. In huge ways. But I need you to get a hold of a few things first." (By the way, I think He wants to use you in huge ways, too.) And He will, if you get a hold of this:   God's power

God's powerful presence lives in you . . . operate in His power!
It's so easy to SAY I believe God's Spirit lives in me, but as I examine my life it's obvious I don't, because my daily living just doesn't reflect His power. I've been more like the person described in 2 Timothy 3:5, who has a form of godliness, but "denies the power therof."

In fact, I relate a whole lot to Peter. On his own, he was a fearsome mess. Matthew 26:69–75 shows him so knock-knee scared he's cussing (yes, cussing!) and lying through his teeth saying he never even knew this Jesus-dude. And yet just weeks later, 3,000 souls are saved after he preaches one power-packed sermon. What caused this dramatic difference in Peter? There's no other explanation than . . . the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2 tells us Peter stood up to preach just after the Holy Spirit filled him on the day of Pentecost.)

I'm done underestimating the resurrection power that is in me. From now on, I plan to rely on the Person of Jesus in me, not in a position or title I'm given. And I thoroughly anticipate seeing unbelievable things as a result:

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us" (Eph. 3:20, emphasis added).


How about you? Do you believe—really truly believe—the very powerful presence of God lives in you? How would your life be different if you lived like this?

God, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You would strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in our inner beings . . . that we would be filled to overflowing with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:16, 19).

    Yes! I have the same power in me that raised Jesus from the dead! And so do all of you. Believe that, and start to use that power!

    I don't know why this excites me so much! I don't want to underestimate God's Holy Spirit within me anymore, either. Since I've become a Christian, I think I'm trying to force myself to change on the inside, and it's not working. Instead I'm going to believe that God's power within me can change me. I can't do it alone!! I want this to be my prayer: God, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You would strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in our inner beings . . . that we would be filled to overflowing with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:16, 19).

    I want to be filled with the Holy Spirit...I really do...but I think that just as the blog was talking about, God needs to get a hold of me and change a few things first...it's just the letting go part that's hard. I have to be willing to lay my entire life down at Jesus' feet, but honestly, I know there's still things I'm holding back that I need to give up...so prayers would be appreciated for me in this area :) Thank you so much!

    YES! I need to live in the power of the Holy Spirit. This seems to be something that God wanted me to read because I actually texted the same verses (Ephesians 3:14-19) to some of my friends this morning. I was also meditating on these verses and thinking about how we have to choose to live in the Spirit (Galatians 6:8). I really like that you mentioned Peter! Even though he made several huge mistakes, God forgave him and used him in great ways. That is so encouraging!

    ok, so i wanna be filled with the holy spirit, and be able to be used by HIm, but honestly i've kinda been strugiling with that latly. i mean i want that, but right now, i'm kinda upset/mad at God. see, my brother just went to collage, and i just got news from my best friend that he might be moving, and its soooooo hard on me, cuz we're sooo close, we're like bro and sis. he means sooo much to me, and i don't wanna see him go. and it'll be soo hard, cuz it'll be like loosing two bro's in less then a year, and its killing me, especialy scince we're sooo close. i don't know, but if God ends up making him move, i'm gonna be soooo upset, and mad. cuz i mean i do have other friends, but none like him. its always been so hard for me to become close friends with guys, and so i finialy got to be close friends with this guy, but now he might be moving, and if so, i just know i'm gonna be broken hearted, and its gonna be really hard to not be mad at God. so if u guys could just pray for me, and if u have any advice i'd really apriciate it.

    I just posted this note to you on a previous blog… I’m reposting it here in case you didn't see it.

    Thanks for the opportunity to pray for you and your friend. I know it can be difficult to think about the possibility of a close friend moving away.

    It helps to remember that the God of the Universe, who loves you and your friend more than you can even fathom is working all things together for the good of those who love Him (Rom. 8). He is for you and not against you, Elizabeth. You can trust Him to only do what is best. So when trials and challenges come your way, you can lean on Him. You can ask Him to give you the strength to face whatever tomorrow holds.

    You have your friend with you today. So enjoy your friendship today. Don’t allow the “what-ifs” of tomorrow steal the joy of what the Lord has given you today.

    Jesus said it this way, Elizabeth, “Don’t worry about tomorrow… (Matthew 6:34).” How do we do that? Philippians 4:6 says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for what He has done.”

    “Lord Jesus, would you help my friend tonight to roll her fears about losing her friend onto your shoulders. Thank you for the gift of friendship you’ve given her. And thank you that she can trust you to do what is best in the days ahead.”

    I was wondering if anyone had any charities to suggest giving too. I am looking at World Vision right now but was wondering if there were any others I shoul look at. I recently read a super good book called Do Hard Things. I was really challenged by it and now am looking at giving to a Christian organization. I am also looking at giving to my local pregnancy center. Any suggestions? Thank you, Meghan

    Carrie, thank u sooo much, i really needed to hear that. sometimes its just hard for me to just put it all on God's sholders, cuz i dont' understand why He'd let something like that happen, u know what i mean? i mean if He is such a great and loving God, why can't He just let my friend stay?? i just don't understand. and i think it'd be easier to put it on God's shoulders if i could be there with him right now, but right now i'm in a different country then him, and i won't get to see him for a bit, so its like why would God let him move when i can't even see him for the whole year. i mean if he's moving i'd at least like to be able to spend the last year with him, ya know? its just really hard! i mean i know He does somethings because He loves us, and He does it to protect us, but i don't understand whats so bad or dangerus about us being friends. and we just went thru a hard time together, and it was just really hard, and alot of feelings got hurt, but we worked it all out, and latly we've been closer then ever. i just don't understand why He'd take something like that from me. idk, i mean i just know if God lets this happen i'm gonna be soooo upset. i mean i don't even understand why He'd want that to even happen. its hard. but thanx for ur advice, and if u have anymore, i'd greatly apriciate it. thanx Carrie

    I understand that feeling :) Just a few weeks ago, I was in a spiritual hole, totally not trusting God to get me through it. Then I found Philippians 4:6-7, and it totally changed EVERYTHING! Its SO amazing! God taught me SO much and now I'm able to witness to my friends just through one experience. God is SO AMAZING!!!! Its so cool how you can be in the dumps one second, and then soaring sky-high the next just because God revealed Himself to you through His Word. :) Soli Deo Gloria! <3

    i think this is sort of funny that this subject came up, because in Sunday school today (I was a leader) the teacher was talking about the Holy Spirit and the Trinity to the children. She used word pictures to help the children remember, and for the Holy Spirit she did dynamite, because of the POWER! This is just cool i thought, that you mentioned this. Thanks!

    Ok I love this blog!! Anyway I don't know who else to ask....and I always get good advice here=] so here goes......I was looking up online where a 14 year older could work...I actually found like 5 places ....all of which are very close to my house and seem like fun places to work...I researched this for about an hour or two.....I was TOTALLY happy that I found places because lets face it....the economy is not good and I am trying to save up for college, a car, life in general, and anythign else ......I mention it to my parents at dinner and they shot the idea down in a heartbeat .....(I'm 14 ...i guess they dont think its safe?) I am so mad! I thought they would be happy that I am ambitious and wanted to get a small job....but I get a big fat NO ..."Not until your 16" now they did offer me jobs to do around the house but....honestly I know that we need more income coming from places other than from inside the family.....What do i do?? Now i am discouraged.....and poor =/ Ok well thank you for reading this !!

    Lizzy,

    Two things come to mind:

    Number one… God is good! He is great and awesome and loving beyond what you and I could ever imagine! The reason we KNOW that to be true, even when it doesn’t feel like it is true, is because of His Word. His Word is what will give understanding to this trial with your friend. I encourage you to write out these verses and begin thinking on them daily…maybe you could even memorize them over the next several weeks. Romans 8: 28-29; 8:31-32; Isaiah 55:8; 1 Peter 1:6-7.

    Number two: Life is not about us… it’s all about Jesus! It’s all about what He is doing to mold us into the image of Christ. Jesus is about the work of the Kingdom in your life, Lizzy. He is using trials to mold and shape you; to bring you to a point of greater dependence and trust in Him. And to use your life to show others the hope of the gospel!

    So Lord Jesus, I ask you today to show my friend a glimpse of what you are doing in her life. Lord, help her to trust you more today than she did yesterday. Make her a woman consumed with love for You and Your Word. Would you help her today to walk by faith that you are for her and not against her. That you are working in ways she can’t even imagine. Use her life today for your purposes, Lord. Help Lizzy live in light of the love you have for her…and for all those who have yet to hear the good news of Jesus.

    I’m sure you are disappointed in not being able to work outside your home. Your parents may actually be thrilled at your ambitions and desire to save for your future. But they don’t think that now is the time to start doing that outside your home. In God’s sovereignty, He has chosen to lead us through the authorities He places over us. At 14, your authority is your parents. I encourage you to submit to their authority trusting that they have your best interest at the center of their hearts. God will honor your heart of submission (Eph. 6:1-3).

    I encourage you to take a look at the jobs they are offering you and use them to begin stashing a little bit of money for your dreams and future. Remember what your ultimate goal was – to get some money in your savings account. Your parents appreciate your heart and are offering you a way to reach your goal.

    thanx for sharing the wisdom with me, i really do apriciate it, even if its not the answers i want, i know its the truth, and its something i've gotta except. and yeah, i'll definetly look up those verses and write them and work on memeorizing them. :D and thanx for sharing that thing about everything being about God, cuz its sooooo true, i've just never thought about it that way, i mean i know its all about Him, but sometimes i get that self centered vision and stuff where its all about me, so that really helped me, and thanx for praying for me, that means more to me then u know. and a good thing is that thru this whole thing i've been able to trust God more, and just get closer to Him, so thats nice. :D

    I've been having a hard time lately believing that God will soften my heart (I have a hard heart from straying from Him for the past 8-ish year). It seems impossible that God can change someone like me. Tonight when I was at a church group, I prayed that God would give me more faith to believe that He will change me. The speaker at our group then talked about the difference between passive faith- believing that God *can* do something- and active faith- believing that God *will* do something. And that was exactly my struggle: I believe that God *can* change a heart (as evidenced in Saul/Paul), but do I believe that God *will* change me? No. I doubt. But tonight I learned that I have to take that step of faith and choose to believe that God can and WILL change my heart. It won't happen overnight, but over a period of time. And sometimes it will seem impossible, but I believe that God will be faithful. I choose to believe that God's powerful presence lives in me and that, one day, I will be able to look back on today (my past) and be amazed at how far I've come.

    How God Has Been Using My Youth Group

    Over the past few months, God has been using my youth group in amazing ways. If you've heard of the Life House skit, then you know what I'm talking about. God has been using us to perform that skit in our town, and in other towns in our state. We now have the opportunity to perform it out of state, and we are going to try to do it. In addition to this, I have been trying to open my life so that God can use me in other ways. I have invited some of my friends to church and I have been helping out with VBS in the last few years. Our youth group has started organizing groups that go to other people's houses to reach out to them, pray for those in need, and many other things. It's amazing how God begins to use you and those around you, when someone opens up to Him.
