The Difference Between Your Bible And Your Science Homework

God doesn't want you to just check Bible reading off your to-do list. He wants you to be changed by it. Here's a prayer to help you get there.

HEY, GIRLS! We love hearing from you, but feel limited in the ways we can help. For one thing, we’re not trained counselors. If you’re seeking counsel, we encourage you to talk to your pastor or a godly woman in your life as they’ll know more details and can provide you with ongoing accountability and help. this had a huge impact on me! first year in high school and i'm stressed out of my mind. so i find myself just checking it off the list. So thank-you for this. I'll definitely be doing that praying everyday this year before I read my Bible.

    Be Still and Know

Erin, that was beautiful. I am so proud of you young ladies. I am proud that as you "stand" so tall in holding to God's Word, that your heart is "humbled." I never had this guidance in my Christian walk and I am old enough to be your mother, possibly, grandmother. Regardless, we now are sister-n-Christ holding each other to accountability.

Just this past year, I began taking my time with God serious. The key words for me were from God himself, "Patsy, Be still and Know that I am God." I am one of those who has a million and one things to do and I just "click off" all day long.

My time with God was just that, "clicking it off." That is until I began prayer and fasting. I have a special place in my house and it is agreed upon that I am not to be disturbed unless there is an emergency. I have no agenda.

My Bible is a love letter from God. When I start. I read it through, no picking and choosing like a reference book. I have read it through once and am half way through again. During this time, I pray that God will open my heart, eyes, and ears to his truth, (I love Brandon Heath's, Open my Eyes) yo expose things in my live that I need to work on. My prayers are made as I read. I read and pray about whatever the Word and Holy Spirit brings to my mind. The other things I leave unsaid. This kind of silence, allowing God to work in my life has been life changing. Thanks for your affirmation that our study and prayers should be more about what God wants to do in us rather than our directing Him. May God bless you as you seek His will in your life.

Wow. I didn't realize that i have been having a "check off" attitude lately. Thank you for the encouragement. I know the our God hears and blesses those who humbly admit how much they need Him.

I love reading the Bible. Even though, as I've said before, it makes me very frusterated and makes me have tons of questions, I can't stop. I usually read the Bible 2 times a day. It makes me more focused on God, but I don't feel like I'm that great of a person. I've been a Christian my whole life and it seems like people who hardly read the bible at all do a better job at living than i do. But I can always try. Thanks for todays post.

Another great post and I'm happy this time I was able to watch the video because I have an old PC and lately I have trouble loading vids.
I love to read my Bible but very often I fear I'm reading it with my mind and not with my heart, that's why I think is very important to start my readings with the proper attitude.

Thanks Erin for sharing this. It's very encouraging to hear this. I'll been a check off the list girl for so many years. And the thing you said about praying before reading the word, is a big help for me. Before I started to pray before reading, I would get confess and don't understand a thing about the word. But now I can see and understand the Bible now.

Here's a great Christian blog to help younger women understand marriage and how to make godly choices in their hearts:

It's funny, I used to just read the Bible to know, and to have read the whole thing, but now that I've read it all the way through once, I read it to rest and recover from the stresses of life, and if I don't read enough, I can tell because I'm stressed and on edge.

Wow. That's really convicting! Sometimes I tell myself that I'm reading my Bible to "learn about it" but i'm actually checking it off my list.

Praying before you read the Bible, great. Thanks! At our house, even if I'm in my room with my door closed noise gets in and distracts me if I don't get to my Bible before everyone is up. Plus, I share my room with siblings, and so they come in sometimes. I got the idea before this and it actually helps me focus.

I pray one of those verses every time I open my Bible (or Biblegateway.com). I almost always see Bible reading as a check off my checklist because I don't feel as if the Bible speaks to me every day, and I feel guilty for that. But my friend recently told me that sometimes we read a chapter or so that won't speak to us just then, but later God will remind you of it in a certain situation and use it in your life.
