Summer Book Club: The Family Secret

From the LYWB blog team: Happy Monday to our amazing readers! Thanks for kicking off the 2018 Summer Book Club with us. We hope you’ll grab a copy of Family: How to Love Yours (and Help Them Like You Back) for yourself and start reading one chapter each week! (PS: These chapters aren’t big and scary—they’re like chatting with a big sis who has lots of practical tips and biblical truth to share!) Let’s dive right in.

Welcome to the 2018 Summer Book Club!

I’m so honored to return to the Lies Young Women Believe blog to be your host through my book Family: How to Love Yours (and Help Them Like You Back).

Whether you’re determined to deepen your family relationships this summer or just looking to survive more time with your parents and siblings, I hope you’ll join me on this journey of learning to love your family well (and make it easier for them to like being around you in return).

So without further adieu, let’s dive into chapter one!

Don’t forget to join the comments below to answer these questions:

  • What do you hope to accomplish in reading through this book?
  • What do you hope to see change in your family—or in you—this summer?

I hope you enjoy chapter two of Family: How to Love Yours and Help Them Like You Back, “Dreams, Meet Diaper Rash.” I’ll see you again next Monday for another installment of our Summer Book Club!

I really hope I can learn how to love other people well whether it be my biological family (siblings, parents, cousins, etc) or my church family. I have a hard time loving others and being selfless instead of selfish. I hope to see my family come to know Jesus and for those who already do know him, love him even more through seeing Jesus inside of me.

I want to learn how I can be a better daughter/sister and how my family can “live together in unity” (Psalm 133:1). Thanks for doing this, Jessie!

    • Awesome goal, Erika! And it’s my pleasure. This is going to be fun! xo!

I want to learn how to accept that even though my sisters lives are changing I can still have a relationship with them.

  • Hannah

I want to be able to be more loving and patient to my siblings. Thank you so much for this Jessie!

I’m so excited to be joining this summer book club. I’ve never done anything like this before and this book truly meets one of my needs at the moment. At the beginning of the year one of my goals was to strengthen my relationship with my siblings and I’m sure I’ll get there through God’s help and this book!

  • hannah

I hope to stop fighting with my sister and to be able to get along with her and my parents.

  • Charis Chen

I hope to be able to learn to respect my parents more and be an instrument of peace in the midst of conflict.

  • These are all such great goals! Praying for each one of you right now. May you see God work in mighty ways this summer—in YOU and in your families. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

where can we get the book so we can read the chapters?

      • Hi Hannah! You can get a copy of Family pretty much anywhere books are sold. (If you don’t find it on the shelf, they should be able to order it for you.) You’ll also find a list of popular online retailers at http://www.LifeLoveandGod.com/family.

        • hannah

          Ok thanks

        • hannah

is there anywhere you can read it for free?

          • Sorry, Hannah, there is not a free version available, and if you find one, please let me know. (Just as with music, if an author’s work is pirated, the author can’t pay the bills, which means no more books get made, which means my children go hungry.) BUT, if you genuinely can’t afford a copy and would like to do the study, by all means shoot me an email at media@lifeloveandGod.com and we’ll work something out. (That offer is extended to anyone reading this message.)

Ok thank you I will let you know if I need a copy I just thought i would see if there was a free version.
